Recovery Smoothie

Here is a short little piece about the "Paleo" recovery smoothie I make after workouts and long runs. I put paleo in quotes because it is not made of strictly paleo foods, however as athletes, our bodies require more carbs, especially right after intense exercise. I love this smoothie!!!

Ingredients
8oz orange juice (try to get one that is most natural and does not have added sugar)
4 frozen strawberries
2 tbsp whey protein powder
1 tsp L-Glutamine powder

So pour the O.J. into a blender and add the strawberries. Blend together until smooth. Add the protein powder and Glutamine powder, and blend until all the powder has been mixed into the fruit blend. And that is literally it. Super simple. Sometimes Jake has added a banana to his smoothie, but I find it is quite filling without and I would rather not add the extra calories at this point in time. When I go to Boulder to workout, I bring my smoothie in a water bottle because it is best to consume it within thirty minutes of your intense activity ending. That way the body can absorb the most nutrients. It pretty much melts, but it is still delicious. In the summer, I added a few ice cubes to my water bottle and that kept it nice and cold for a few hours.

It is not recommended to drink this smoothie every day because of it's high sugar content. So on the days I don't make it, I have some Ultragen Recovery mix. I am really pleased with the Ultragen and highly recommend it to all athletes.
